The Awards Ceremony is part of the Opening Session to be held in the Ulúa 3 Ballroom, 16:30–18:35 hrs, Sunday, October 16. It is intended recognize the 2010 Convention award winners and to honor selected individuals who through their works have made an important contribution to the GCAGS and the advancement of geosciences.
The 2011 Transactions will be dedicated in memory of Ernesto López-Ramos.
The Don R. Boyd Medal will be awarded to Ernest A. Mancini.
The 2010 Gordon I. Atwater Best Poster Awards will be presented to:
1st place: Mark Etienne, Carl Richter, and William Schramm for their poster, “Geoelectrical Imaging of a Hydrocarbon Plume at the Lookout Release Site, St. Helena Parish, Louisiana.”
2nd place: Thomas Van Biersel for his poster, “Natural History, Geology, and the Civil War Battle Field at Port Hudson, Louisiana.”
3rd place: Tucker Hentz and Stephen Ruppel for their poster, “Regional Lithostratigraphy of the Eagle Ford Shale: Maverick Basin to East Texas Basin.”
The 2010 Thomas A. Philpott Excellence of Presentation Awards will be given to:
1st place: Charles Cusack, Jana Beeson, Dick Stoneburner, and Gregg Robertson for their paper “The Discovery, Reservoir Attributes, and Signifi cance of the Hawkville Field and Eagle Ford Shale Trend, Texas.”
2nd place: Eleanour Snow and Doug Ratcliff for their paper “GeoFORCE Texas: Six Years of Experience Turning Rural and Urban, Mostly-Minority High School Students into College Science Majors.”
3rd place: Robert G. Loucks, Robert M. Reed, Stephen C. Ruppel, and Ursula Hammes for their paper “Preliminary Classifi cation of Matrix Pores in Mudrocks.”
The 2010 Grover E. Murray Best Published Paper Awards will be presented to:
